
Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN), which continues its social awareness efforts, held another meaningful event as part of its "Science Café" gatherings. The "BEUN Healthy Smiles Movement," organized by the BEUN Science Communications Office, met with students at Murat Kayhan Primary School in the central district of Zonguldak.
The program, implemented by the BEUN Science Communication Office, established with the initiative of BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer in line with the decisions and incentives of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), was carried out as a comprehensive educational activity aiming to raise awareness of oral and dental health in children.
BEUN Dentists Shared Dental Health Tips with Students
The event, organized under the coordination of the BEUN Science Communication Office, was attended by BEUN Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Bekir Hakan Bakkal, Faculty of Dentistry Clinical Sciences Department Head of the Department of Pedodontics Prof. Dr. Ebru Hazer Bodrumlu, Dr. Lecturer Melek Belevcikli, one of the academicians in the Department of Pedodontics, as well as Res. Asst. Ece Büyükbektaş, Res. Asst. Asporça Beyza Ateş, Res. Asst. Demet Demir Yıldırım and Res. Asst. Tuğçe Tekbıyık from the faculty of dentistry, school administration, teachers, and a large number of students.
Dentists demonstrated proper brushing and flossing techniques to students, emphasizing the importance of brushing with a sweeping technique. Emphasizing that oral hygiene should be a lifelong habit, the dentists conducted one-on-one dental screenings and provided personalized information to students.
Great Interest from Little Ones in Healthy Smile Education
Throughout the event, students posed questions about oral and dental health to dentists. Experts offered practical suggestions to help children improve their daily habits.
At the end of the program, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Bekir Hakan Bakkal and dentists emphasized the great importance of such events in raising health awareness in children at an early age, and Prof. Dr. Bakkal made the following statements:
We are delighted to be involved in such a meaningful project. Learning proper tooth brushing at a young age lays the foundation for a healthy oral structure later in life. We were particularly pleased with the interest shown by our students. The event concluded with Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Bekir Hakan Bakkal presenting certificates of appreciation to the dentists who contributed to the program and a commemorative photo taken with great joy by the students.
